Did you try children photography before? For me, there are few children in my family, so I got chance to try it out. The field of child photography is challenging but also enjoyable. Based on what’s I being through, the techniques used in most other fields of photography do not always apply in child photography. Why I say so? Is very simple, kids will not take your words like “hold it”, “freeze”, “smile” and etc. These carry very little weight with children. They typically do as they please and if they please. In children photography, your challenge is anticipate what a kid may be about to do and capture it. I failed during my first few attempts until I understand the above statement.

Since children don’t always do what you want them to do or what you expect them to do, is not easy to get what you wish. A tips for that is “Trick” them. Expect them to act like children, don’t expect anything in particular. At different ages children are capable of doing different things. The more you know what they typically do during of these stages, the better images you are going to capture. Children might show you variety of poses and expressions, but this might only last around 10 minutes. So make sure you act fast, and finished it very quickly. If you drag and what’s happen? Answer is the children will be inpatient, and you might not able to continue the session. That’s what I experienced. Although the session is short, but you will feel like finished a marathon. That’s because you need to 100% concentrate on them.

Although children photography is a challenge but is worth to take this challenge, you will feel your portrait skill improve dramatically if you able to take a good children photography. Further more, their parents will happy because you managed to take nice photos of their child that they can’t. That’s also a reason I learn photography, through my photographs, it can make others happy.
