Dogathon 2010 with theme Ancient Egypt was held at Bukit Ekspo, UPM. It is an event organized by UPM veterinary students to raise the awareness related to stray issues among the public. This is the one and only day where the society and animals can play a part in addressing this issue hand-in-hand.

In year 2010, the main highlight of Dogathon 2010 is the Race of Anubis where dogs and owner can exercise and spend time together. Dog owner could run around the tranquil land of the Bukit Ekspo in the morning with their beloved dog! This marathon-like event is specially designed for participants to run for about 3.0 km and then won great prizes. Of course, all dogs must be on leash at all times.

Talking about Dogathon, it was a meaningful event to me, which I started my photography and blogging journey there, Dogathon 2008. Missed the year 2009 so I told myself I definitely made it for this round. So we woke up very early, we reached Bukit Ekspo around 7:45 am. When time we reached, we already saw a lot of dog owners brought their furkids there.

At the entrance, there was a compulsory physical examination gate, each dog had to be checked in terms of general appearance, integument, well-being as well as many other common aspects. Dogs which are pregnant, on heat, or aggressive will not gain entrance to this event. This procedure is free of charge, each dog after checkup would be given a dog tag with number.

Everybody was waiting their turn for the examination :)

The students were focusing to do what's they learned.

"Open your mouth..do..do..do.." :)

An incredible 1,100 canines turned up, this made Dogathon 2010 managed to sail comfortably into Malaysia Book Of Records. So you may found different breed of canines here. Below were some shoots to share.

Double St. Bernard, a routine owner that I met him on each dog outing event. :)

His pretty doggie close up :)

You also may get veterinary consultation. The experienced veterinarians from University Veterinary Hospital (UVH) would give you precious advices for just a small fee of RM 3 for every 7-minute session. The money collected would be channeled to PRO-KASIH program.

Waiting for consultation.

Walking to the main stage, you could found an Ancient Egypt deco space. A pyramid dog could be found as the spot light of this area.

At 8 am, the opening ceremony started.

Just after the launching, all race participants and their dogs were being called to gather at the starting point.

Gathering and listening for the instruction..can't drag the dog..can't carry the dog..else you will be disqualified :)

The race started with male runners then follow by female runners. 1, 2, 3..GO..!!!

Guessing who will be the winner?

Now the turn for the ladies..ready...

Go..run..doggie run..

The track was around 3.0 km, after 20 minutes, the first runner appeared.

They were the champions..couldn't believe it..the small breed dog run faster than the big dog :P..

The 2nd runner up..

Competing for the 3rd and 4th..keep it up..Golden Retriever vs Doberman..wow..really feel the excitement.

Boss..I gotta to add some fuel..

Doggie come Come COME..

Run with me baby..we almost there.

My tongue almost want to drop out..water boss..

When reached the ending point, dog owner rewarded with a icy can of drink.

Of course..the buddies also served with plenty of drinking water..Good job..buddy..

Of course, if you were luckily, you would be interviewed by the media..just like this pretty lady.

Ok..here end of my Dogathon story..wish you enjoyed it..and do remember to make it next year..if you didn't attend this round. Lot's of photographer attended this event, a nice event to practice..by looking back the photos I taken 2 years back..it really shown lot of different.
