Melaka Jonker Street or Jalan Hang Jebat is a place that you “must-go” if you drop by Malacca, Malaysia. I highly recommended Jonker Street because it is a fascinating street for photography, bazaar type shopping and food hunt. I spent more than 3 hours there during my last visit.

I visited Jonker Street few times but I didn’t really view it closely before. This was the first time I hold my Nikon D60 DSLR camera and did a street documentary by foot. The feel and experience was really nice, I got much nice photos from there.

During this time, Jonker Street will be turned into a pedestrian mall and small booths will be allowed to sell local food, handicraft, artwork etc. to tourists and locals alike. Ove the years, Jonker Walk has become popular with tourists who usually visit Melaka during the weekends.

Once you stepped into the entrance of the street, you will be amazed by what you see along the street. Jonker Street is really a horoscope of local cultures, delicacies, and souvenirs. Its unique architectural style only can be found in Melaka.

First let's have a look on the buildings around Jonker Street.

Jonker street also know as Jonker Walk, this is the main stage of the walk, which during every weekend, night time, you might found some shows such as singing, dancing, and other presentations live there.

Geographer Cafe Melaka, at corner of Jalan Hang Jebat, this is ideal for day, or night, eating and drinking. Downstairs is very open and breezy, with sidewalk seating. Upstairs is eclectic and cool. Staff are attentive, pleasant and efficient. Food is very good, at reasonable prices. A great meeting place, one of the best in Melaka.

THE ORANGUTAN HOUSE was established in 1992 as the studio-gallery of Charles CHAM in Malacca, Malaysia. Today, it is one of the most recognisable buildings in Malacca and a must-see for all who visit this World Heritage City.

One of the Heritage building. You can easily found such old design building along the street.

Look at the unique design of the entrance, wonder what's is the end of this building.

One of the famous Melaka Chicken Rice shop. When you are hungry make sure you try  this out. :)

How about peoples there? Don't worry, of course I got this covered. Have a look on the following photos,

An old folk that cycling with his bike. Look at his 70's dress up, I am sure he is the local :).

A demonstration of Chinese Calligraphy from a handicap lady.

The highlight of the street was the Melaka Sunday Flea market.

Not like normal flea markets, this market selling unique handcrafts, antiques and second hand stuffs. The street also clean and you can see heritage buildings along the street. It's not like normal chinatown. It's really different!!

Opening Times for Jonkers Walk : Friday to Sundays from 6.00pm to 11.00pm only. It is nearby the Geographer Cafe. If you not sure, you may ask the local for direction.

A lot of visitors drop by these market, but most of them are purchasing anything, and for the seller, I think they selling for fun as well. They will not hard sell you anything, so you will not feel any pressure and  do take your time for a close look on the items.

Old books also can easily be found here. If you want to buy one to keep or rewind your memory :). The seller try to sell me a film photography guide when he saw me holding a dslr, but at last, I didn't bough it.. too many such collection at my house already..:)..and getting complain from my wife cause she was the one who tidy them up.

Uncle was busing to repair the broken radio..hope he can make it alive again :).

F&N Poster? Don't know how many years history already.

Accidentally found an Olympia Camera here..emm why not Olympus ?

An oldies plastic disk music player.. still working fine. Second one I found this year which the first time at Taiping Night Market.

Ok..that's all about the story.

How to GO there?
