Saturday night, my father spent everybody us a Poon Choi(Pun Choy) dinner at the famous Restaurant LYJ, Sungai Buloh  (李雄记酒家). A little bit history about Poon Choi. it also known as Big Bowl Feast or  pun choi, it is a traditional type of dish originating from Hong Kong village cuisine. It may also be found in different parts of Hong Kong. It is served in wooden, porcelain or metal basins. It was said that Poon Choi was invented during the late Song Dynasty. When Mongol troops invaded Song China, the young Emperor fled to the area around Guangdong Province and Hong Kong. To serve the Emperor as well as his army, the locals collected all their best food available, cooked it, and because there were not enough containers, put the resulting dishes in wooden washbasins. In this way, Poon Choi was invented.

The restaurant is located at Jalan Perkhidmatan, Kampung Baru Sungai Buloh. From Kuala Lumpur, it took around 45 minutes drive. We booked a table at 8PM, please make sure you book your table before you go, the place was crowed during weekend, you might need to wait if you didn't have booking.

From the entrance, you can noticed that the shop were recommended by famous critic such as Hugo Leong and others.

  • Brewed Ma-Yao in home style
  • Oyster
  • Chestnut

The restaurant also famous with it's sauces, these were the four main sources that served, it served with sufficient amount which some stingy restaurant only provide few sauces. Everybody were waiting the Poon Choi to served.
